COMMENTS

Due to the critical success of the four initial shows in May 2018, held in tiny venues in London's Camden and Putney, Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets announced a full European tour for September that year. The expanded shows for the full tour were even more highly acclaimed, and it came as no surprise when further dates for 2019 were announced. The insatiable demand for more dates, in more locations, has resulted in the band carrying on from where they left off, with shows for 2020 taking the music to new fans, as well as those who have already experienced the show, eager for more!

Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets brings together some familiar names, all great musicians: joining Nick are Gary Kemp and Lee Harris on guitars, Guy Pratt on bass, and Dom Beken on keyboards. Kemp is best known for his work with Spandau Ballet, Harris as having played guitar with The Blockheads (Ian Dury's band), Pratt needs no introduction, and Beken is principally known for his work with The Orb, and Transit Kings (with Pratt). The band will be playing early Pink Floyd songs.

This is a unique opportunity to experience Pink Floyd's celebrated and significant early body of work played live including songs from albums 'The Piper At The Gates of Dawn' and 'A Saucerful Of Secrets'.

The regular sale of tickets starts on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 26th 2019 at 9am (UK time), via Eventim.de, other official agents, and the venues themselves.

UPDATE, 18th March: Due to the COVID-19/Coronavirus pandemic, this concert, along with the others on the 2020 tour, has been re-scheduled; tickets remain valid for the new date so there should be no need to contact the venue for clarification or to change the ticket. At this stage, the revised date has not been confirmed but we are expecting this very shortly, and will update this page accordingly. 

UPDATE, 11th May: This concert has now been rescheduled into 2021, and tickets remain valid for this new date.  

UPDATE, 11th June 2021: The concert has now moved to July 1st, 2022. As before, tickets remain valid for the new date.

And so to Hamburg, and a more demonstrative audience than the previous show. Both crowds, though, enjoying the show equally, but just in a different way! Early reports are that the band remain on top form. Did you go to this show? Let us know!

This concert was a very special event for my wife and me. We have seen the Saucers on their first European tour in Zürich, so we knew we were in for a treat, but this was the first time we took our son with us to a concert. He's six and a great Pink Floyd and Beatles fan, so it was fantastic to be able to let him see one of the old farts. Incidentally, it was the same place that his grandfather saw Pink Floyd in 1970. That show to be heard on the bootleg "Grooving with the Pink", the one on which Roger banters with the audience: "Great, terrific, wonderful. The Nile Song. Yes... never heard of it...". Well, this time we got to hear The Nile Song. That was no surprise: they played it on the first tour, it's on Live At The Roundhouse, and I had a peek at the set list of the current tour. Still, it is always a delight how much the songs rocks, Sex Pistols reference and all.

The set wasn't too different from the first tour. Three songs were dropped that appeared on the live album (Interstellar Overdrive, Green Is The Colour, Let There Be More Light, Point Me At The Sky), and instead they played Candy And A Currant Bun (with the original lyrics partly restored, because they thought that "we were finally all grown up to hear it"), Burning Bridges, and Echoes. All new songs on the list were great, but Echoes stole the show. For me, that was special, because it is my favourite Floyd song and I missed seeing David play it on his 2006 tour. My son also knows the song well. He got a bit more fidgety as the show went on, but was completely captivated when the ping started and focused on the whole song.

For the final applause we went to the stage. The band was throwing their guitar picks to the audience, but Lee Harris gave one especially to my son, which made the night a little extra special. I had to promise to some other fans not to keep the pick for myself, which, of course, I would never do. Gary Kemp told the audience that it was particularly great and responsive, which was really nice, because I remember a Roger Waters show in Hamburg at which the audience seemed a bit quiet and lacklustre. This time, both the band and the audience obviously enjoyed themselves a lot. The atmosphere was great and it was certainly one of the best concerts I have been to. Knowing that we brought the youngest member of the audience and being able to share this with him made it unforgettable.
