COMMENTS

Due to the critical success of the four initial shows in May 2018, held in tiny venues in London's Camden and Putney, Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets announced a full European tour for September that year. The expanded shows for the full tour were even more highly acclaimed, and it came as no surprise when further dates for 2019 were announced. The insatiable demand for more dates, in more locations, has resulted in the band carrying on from where they left off, with shows for 2020 taking the music to new fans, as well as those who have already experienced the show, eager for more!

Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets brings together some familiar names, all great musicians: joining Nick are Gary Kemp and Lee Harris on guitars, Guy Pratt on bass, and Dom Beken on keyboards. Kemp is best known for his work with Spandau Ballet, Harris as having played guitar with The Blockheads (Ian Dury's band), Pratt needs no introduction, and Beken is principally known for his work with The Orb, and Transit Kings (with Pratt). The band will be playing early Pink Floyd songs.

This is a unique opportunity to experience Pink Floyd's celebrated and significant early body of work played live including songs from albums 'The Piper At The Gates of Dawn' and 'A Saucerful Of Secrets'.

Tickets for the revised venue (see below, update from March 2nd 2022) go on sale on March 7th 2022, through www.nochesdelbotanico.com.

UPDATE, 18th March 2020: Due to the COVID-19/Coronavirus pandemic, this concert, along with the others on the 2020 tour, has been re-scheduled; tickets remain valid for the new date so there should be no need to contact the venue for clarification or to change the ticket. At this stage, the revised date has not been confirmed but we are expecting this very shortly, and will update this page accordingly.

UPDATE, 16th June 2020: This show has been rescheduled to July 2nd, 2021 - exactly one year later. All tickets remain valid for the new date.

UPDATE, July 28th 2021: The venue has changed from the Palacio Municipal, to the Arena at the Palacio Vistalegre, on July 10th, 2022. The revised ticket link is above!

UPDATE, March 2nd 2022: The venue has changed a second time, so it has gone from the Palacio Municipal, to the Arena at the Palacio Vistalegre, to the Real Jardín Botánico Alfonso XIII, but remains on July 10th, 2022. Staying in Spain, the latest stop for the 2022 European Saucers tour was at the beautiful Botanical Gardens in Madrid, for a warm evening playing great music. Despite the band surely getting tired, and missing home, early reports are that the Saucers remain on top form. Did you go to this show? Let us know!

The band now have a day's break (albeit taken up with travelling) before playing the first of the two final shows on this tour, in Porto, Portugal, before heading to Lisbon, the Portuguese capital, to conclude this leg of the tour.

CONCERT COMMENTS and PICTURES by BD CONTRIBUTOR, Mike Greene

Beautiful warm evening! Welcoming audience but the open air venue doesn’t lend itself to the intimate atmosphere of an indoor venues. The usual people who paid for expensive tickets talk among themselves, drink too much and throw up but there you are. Still, this is apparently the first time NM has been here since (he thinks) since 1988 or so (22 July 88) so most people are pleased to see him back.

Nick, Guy and Gary all tried their best in Spanish but of course, the Spanish people are all so brilliant, they all speak English so there was nothing lost when the words ran out. That said, maybe they didn’t understand Nick’s appeal that the audience turn their smartphone front lights off. It’s not much to ask but seeming is a pet hate that really ticked GP off. You’d have thought security might have been watching for them, once he’d asked.

The sound was excellent and, in particular, the bass lost nothing for being out of doors. If anything, some of the bottom end really drove the cabinets to their limits - and our bones and ears too! The instruments and vocals were nicely separated and super clear. The Sound Crew did a great job. The light show is not perhaps meant to distract from the music and isn’t quite a stadium show but neither, I think, should it be; the large video screen adds a great deal to the feeling of what I imagine the early Pink Floyd stages (all oil lamps and gels) would have been had the watts been available!

All in all, a great show. Of choice, I’d have see the band again in a concert hall rather than a festival (Portsmouth was just beyond fantastic) but others will have enjoyed the balmy summer evening too much to agree with me!
