The London exhibition to coincide with the release of the wonderful new book, The Gathering Storm: The Album Art of Storm Thorgerson is now up and running at the newly opened Proud Archivist, a combined gallery, bar, restaurant, cafe and events space in Hertford Road, London N1. Below, we have a copy of the book signed by the team at StormStudios to give away in our latest competition, but first, more about the exhibition, and some unmissable upcoming events...
The exhibition itself is a wonderful look through the archives of his work, and the work of his colleagues over the years, with some of the pieces presented in stunningly large sizes. There are also other items which are great fun - letters from Storm to record companies which are a hoot. The launch party to open the event saw many friends of Storm coming together to celebrate the man and his work, and the StormStudios photo gallery from the event can be seen on their Facebook page (I even pop up in one of the pictures!) which gives an idea of the exhibition itself, along with the pictures to the left.
The gallery are hosting a number of events whilst the exhibition is on. November 10th sees the gallery host a free workshop exploring the craft of album artwork design, hosted by key StormStudios bods Peter Curson and Dan Abbott, from 2-4pm; on November 17th they host Live Liquid Album Art, letting you participate in the creation of a unique, one-off piece of art using some of the same techniques employed by Storm; November 19th sees them host a classic album playback, letting you admire Storm's work in the context of the music and artists which inspired it; and on November 22nd they're hosting a free screening of Taken by Storm by Roddy Bagawa, a fantastic documentary about Storm's life and work. You can see more details about each event, and get tickets where appropriate, on their website, TheProudArchivist.co.uk.
