With the start, today, of his latest London exhibition (look out for our exclusive launch event report), Storm Thorgerson is in the news again - the man himself, and his work, are due to appear at the San Francisco Art Exchange in August.
Storm will be presenting 50 works of art including rare originals at the show, which has its (invite only) opening night reception on August 14th, which will be attended by Storm and his design partner over many years, Aubrey "Po" Powell. The pair created Hipgnosis, responsible for most of the iconic album covers over the years for the likes of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and many more.
"Storm's images were created without any of the software that we take advantage of now," said San Francisco Art Exchange co-owner Theron Kabrich. "The content of most of his amazing images were constructed scenes, assembled or built in real time as on a movie set. Long before programs like Adobe Photoshop were ever dreamt of, Storm was visualizing and developing images that boggled the mind and provoked the imagination. This leads me to believe those who invented such programs most likely would have been inspired by the imagery Storm created."
The gallery is located in Union Square at 458 Geary Street, and opens at 10am each day. More details can be found at www.SFAE.com.
