News has reached us, via BD visitor Mathieu, of an intriguing show staged by Inouie currently being held in France that will be of interest to French Pink Floyd fans. "La face cachée de la lune" (DSOTM) from Thierry Balasse is not just another standand performance of the Floyd's 1973 album.
Mathieu tells us: "The objective of the show is to play the album just as if we were back in the 70s. Ten musicians play live using the same instruments and technologies available at that time and used by Pink Floyd to record the album. They use synth VCS3, AKS, Moog Source, Hammond piano, a Leslie 122 amp, etc.. NO pre recorded sound: the clocks, the foot steps, the heart beat, the voices, money sounds etc... are all performed 'live'. The heart beat in particular is fascinating.
"On top of DSOTM they play extra tracks from PF, also with a very good rendition. Two TV screens show how they manipulate the various instruments (VCS3 in particular). I attended the first show recently in Nanterre, a Paris suburb, and it was well worth it. The show has also just been performed in Evry, and Chelles, on successive nights."
If you want to experience this for yourself, the next live dates are as follows:
- PARIS 27/28/29 April
- NANCY 17 May
- ARRAS 24 May
- METZ 09 June
- GONESSE 05 October
More information is available through this article in Le Monde (in French), and this video clip gives more background, including a demonstration of the Money sound effects.
UPDATE, June 2012: Our thanks to François for letting us know that ARTE television broadcast one of the performances - and that you can view it on demand through this link.
