Best known amongst Pink Floyd fans for his work on Atom Heart Mother and Music From The Body, composer and musician Ron Geesin sees the latest of his projects come to life in public on Saturday (October 4th). Not so much Music From The Body, but Music From The Blackbird, the project can be experienced throughout this and next month, running until 30th November.

Blackbird Quadralogue celebrates the "astonishing vocal repertoire and intricate jazz-infused riffs of the blackbird, one of the UK's most familiar songbirds...in a new octophonic sound composition that combines the artist Ron Geesin's long-term fascination with birdsong and his fundamental interest in jazz." The octophonic presentation uses eight speakers to provide a dynamic sensory experience.

Sparked by hearing what he believed to be call and answer patterns between birds, Geesin initially made field recordings which demonstrated an abundance of varying pitch and rhythm in the calls between birds. This led to further recordings of a vast range of songs produced by four male blackbirds over two years. Blackbird Quadralogue draws together the calls of these four birds as they move through the seasons.

Presented in Gallery 2 of the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill On Sea, admission is free. More information on the project, and the venue, at dlwp.com.
