The new, surround sound remix of Amused to Death has been stunning numerous parts of the Floyd community since its release on July 24th. Our exclusive interview with producer and engineer James Guthrie, discussing the background to this new edition of Amused To Death has given many a deeper understanding of the album and the process behind creating a new surround sound mix and remaster.
This week, Amused to Death is number 1 on the Billboard Catalog Album chart in America. This chart tracks sales of albums that are more than 18 months old, and The Dark Side of the Moon has topped this
chart on multiple occasions, but this is possibly the first time that Roger has reached the top spot on any Billboard
chart. Our thanks to Rob Farrish for this info. Last week, Roger was number one on the Dutch album charts. In the UK, Roger made the top 10 with the release, although the UK charts split the releases into the different formats rather than have an overall sales figure.
To add to the excitement of this release, we had a very special prize to give away to one lucky Brain Damage visitor - a copy of the limited picture disc edition, personally signed by none other than Roger himself! Adding to the rarity value, this particular example DOESN'T feature a stamped number. You can see the prize itself at the top of this article.
We have had almost a thousand entries, many of which were correct. We didn't want to keep you all in suspense any longer, and have been getting one or two emails asking if the winner had been drawn. We worked our way through the entries, to sort out those which had incorrect answers, and enlisted an independent person to draw the winner. So, Peter Robertson, from the Rutland region of the UK, watch out for your postal delivery person next week...!
Congratulations Peter, and our commiserations to all of you who weren't lucky this time around. We just wish we had more than one to give away, but thanks for participating, and please watch out for our next competition, where we have three copies of a Floyd book to give away!
For those curious as to the answers, the bass players on the album, other than Roger, were: Randy Jackson (tracks 2 and 9), James Johnson (all tracks except 1, 2, 5, 9 and 11), John Pierce (track 5), John Patitucci (track 11), Guo Yi & the Peking Brothers (track 11). Also, Flea recorded some bass but this wasn't used on the final album!
