Last night (October 27th) saw Roger Waters and a specially assembled band take the stage of the Grand Ballroom of New York City's Waldorf=Astoria to perform a new arrangement of Wish You Were Here. The event was the 2009 New York Rita Hayworth Gala to honour the legendary actress, who died as a result of Alzheimer's disease, and to honour all those suffering from the disease.
Over the years, these special events have raised over $53 million for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association, and last night's event will have helped swell those funds.
Roger's band consisted of Jon Carin on keyboards, GE Smith on guitar, and Dave Kilminster on guitar, joining with the house band (drums, bass and three backing singers). GE Smith proved to be a great new addition to the line-up, and the performance was very well received by the audience, which included the likes of John McEnroe, Brook Shields, Jay MacInerney, and David Hyde Pierce.
