Today, June 3rd, sees the beginning of the reintroduction of the band's catalogue on vinyl on the newly named Pink Floyd Records, for the first time in over two decades. In stores today are the first four albums - 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn', 'A Saucerful of Secrets', the 'More' soundtrack, and the 2LP, half-studio, half-live 'Ummagumma'.
Special care has been taken to replicate the original packaging, with a removable sticker placed on the cover giving details of the nature of the release. Ummagumma has - as expected - a gatefold cover for the two records.
The first batch of releases, mastered by James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman have been pressed on 180gram vinyl for optimum sound quality. Pink Floyd Records releases will be manufactured and distributed by Warner Music for the UK and Europe and by Sony Music for North America and the rest of the world.
The rest of the vinyl catalogue will follow throughout the year, with release dates being announced at regular intervals. Naturally, as we get further release dates we will let you know.
As a side note, there have been sightings of The Division Bell on this new label in a few European countries, although officially it has not yet been released. We presume an early batch was mistakenly released to selected channels; we are expecting the proper release of this to be much later in the year.
We know there are many vinyl fans out there reading this, and we're sure these will be very popular releases. If you've not already bought yours, here are the ordering links - using these will give a small but vital contribution to the running costs of Brain Damage, without costing you a penny/cent extra, and we really appreciate it!
We'd love to hear from those who have either picked up theirs from a store, or received from their postman. What are your thoughts on these new releases? How do they sound? Contact us at our normal address of
