Friday (May 2nd) sees the release of Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII on Blu-ray, DVD, 2CD, 2LP, and digital. Having had the good fortune to see the Blu-ray early, we know that many of you will absolutely love the new version.
Obviously over the last week, there have been cinema screenings which we also know that a lot of you have been attending, and by the sound of things, hugely enjoyed. Some cinemas have still got screenings to come, so make sure you check locally. The screenings so far have done really well, with the film comfortably being in the various locations' Top 10s.
One of the screenings on April 24th - at the Parkway Cinema in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, in England - was slightly different, as friend of the website John Johnstone explains:
"I went to see it at Barnsley Parkway - not an IMAX but the front right and left channels were played through an array of the WEM cabinets used during the original performance. Together with Steven Wilson's new mix, the surround sound was awesome - rich, deep and very clear. I thought that the new footage looked very vibrant as well. All in all, a very enjoyable evening out."
Along with the original Pompeii WEM sound system, there was a re-recreation of the Floyd Allen and Heath Pompeii and Dark Side mixing desk. John took some photographs of the WEM equipment and has kindly shared them with us:
