The UK's Official Charts Company has just published a pair of new charts, celebrating the rather nebulous and sometimes rather randomly-used label of prog rock, a genre of music that Rick Wakeman noted has been around for a good 45 years "but better late than never!" The charts are intended as a monthly guide to the popularity of the artists which they have included in this realm, and were launched yesterday coinciding with the annual Progressive Music Awards ceremony.
The current Progressive Albums chart is headed by Tame Impala's Currents, but includes Amused to Death by Roger Waters at number 3, and Pink Floyd's The Endless River at number 8.
In terms of overall sales so far this century, The Dark Side of the Moon with 3.8 million sales is narrowly beaten into second place by Muse's Black Holes and Revelations which has sold 4.4 million in the UK.
