Our friend Phil Taylor, David Gilmour's long-term guitar technician, studio manager, production director and much more, has been in touch this evening with an update on the specially revised and expanded second edition of his wonderful book, "The Black Strat: A History Of David Gilmour's Black Fender Stratocaster".
The book, published by Hal Leonard, will be available from all good book retailers from September 22nd to coincide with the release of the 'Fender DG Strat' and David's 'Live in Gdansk', and is a worthy addition to the bookshelf of any fan of David's evocative guitar work over the years...
As we noted in our review, the book takes a careful and detailed look at one of rock's most iconic instruments. Rather than a dry, technical manual, suited only to those who already know guitars inside and out, it is a rewarding and accessible book that Pink Floyd fans the world over will thoroughly enjoy.
Phil told us: "The second edition has been expanded and amended with an additional 36 new pages slotted in throughout the book.
"Other interesting information and previously unseen photographs had come to light since the first edition was printed, which I wanted to include. Many of the original pages have been re-jigged and updated with some photographs changed to facilitate this. Now the book has 160 pages in total.
"Finally, the second edition has a hardback cover which has a slightly different layout to the first, at the request of Storm".
He also tells us that he has stopped selling the limited first edition from the www.TheBlackStrat.com web site - that edition will now ONLY be available in the Fender DG Strat guitar package.
The forthcoming hardback edition can be ordered through the following special links, which give a healthy discount from the recommended retail price at time of writing, AND help us out with running costs without costing you any extra: Amazon UK, Amazon US/International, Amazon Canada, Amazon Germany, or Amazon France.
Our thanks to Phil for the update on his book.
