The celebration of Syd Barrett taking part in Cambridge later this month, has just had an interesting
item gifted to it. The curiously titled, 12-page book Fart Enjoy was created in 1965 by Syd himself on seven cardboard pages, bound with Sellotape, and was sent as a reply to a friend, Andrew Rawlinson. Andrew had previously sent Syd the outline of Russia on a piece of paper and asked him to decorate it however he wished. The resultant blue-painted country was added to countries decorated by others, making an incredible global view.
Whilst most of Fart Enjoy was reproduced in the 2007, 40th anniversary edition CD of Pink Floyd's Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, it is only the second time the whole thing will have been displayed in public (the first time being 2003's superb Interstellar exhibition in Paris). The Syd Barrett trust, who have been kindly given it by Andrew, have put the whole book, along with Andrew's reminiscences, onto The City Wakes website for all to enjoy...
