In the new issue of GQ Magazine (UK edition; cover date October 2008), there's a terrific article written by Nick Mason, or rather "the graciously ageing drummer of that nifty beat combo, the Pink Floyd". Nick talks at length about his initial reservations to, and eventual involvement in, the Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp in Los Angeles.
With his "real world" experiences he draws a vivid picture of how the Camp compares to his life in Pink Floyd, and includes many anecdotes. These range from him and Roger confronting an 'autograph hunter' in New York and quickly uncovering his real vocation as an eBay trader, through to a nice and somewhat unexpected Keith Moon story!
The four-page article includes a small picture of Nick at the school, on drums in Denmark 1970, and on the Animals tour in 1977. The magazine - a weighty beast at over 400 pages PLUS supplements - is in UK stores now and is available in selected outlets worldwide as an import. More info on the magazine at www.GQMagazine.co.uk.
