Joe Boyd and Robyn HitchcockMany of you will be very familiar with Joe Boyd's name. Boyd, an American, lived in London in the mid-60s, and amongst many other things managed UFO with John "Hoppy" Hopkins. This club was a matrix of the London "Underground" scene in the pivotal years of 1966/7, where Pink Floyd was the house band and The Incredible String Band, Fairport Convention and the Move all played memorable shows. Boyd also produced the Floyd's first single, Arnold Layne.

He tells his story in the incredible book White Bicycles: Making Music in the 1960s, and is taking his tales on the road with singer-songwriter (and huge Syd Barrett fan) Robyn Hitchcock. In Chinese White Bicycles, Boyd reads from his memoirs, and Hitchcock plays the songs.

They make the London debut of their show at the Purcell Rooms at the Southbank Centre on December 1st, 2011. Tickets are now on sale from the SBC box office. The show will mark the approximate 45th anniversary of the first UFO club events.

On the NPR website there's a video (and separate audio download) giving a special, twenty-three minute taster of the show, which you can see through this link.
