Gerald Scarfe and Roger Waters, 2010. Photo: Jane ScarfeAs we revealed back in April, Gerald Scarfe's "The Making of Pink Floyd: The Wall" is being published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson (who published Nick Mason's excellent "Inside Out: A Personal History of Pink Floyd") on October 21st 2010.

"The Making of Pink Floyd: The Wall" is the authorized, definitive book about the project and includes new commentaries from the surviving members of Pink Floyd: Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason, together with the director of the film, Sir Alan Parker. Roger Waters has written the foreword. The album imagery, stage performances and film were created in close collaboration with Gerald Scarfe, and his massive archive includes original storyboards, animation cells, concept drawings, models and other three-dimensional material together with photographs of the creation and staging of the live performances and the filming of The Wall.

We have great pleasure in bringing you this special photo of Gerald Scarfe and Roger Waters in Scarfe's studio, shows them going through material for the book [click the thumbnail to view it in more detail]. It's a lovely, personal look at work on the book, and was taken by Jane Scarfe (Asher), and online exclusively here at Brain Damage!

The Making of Pink Floyd: The Wall by Gerald ScarfeIn the book, Gerald also relates his own experiences of working with the band from the early days of Wish You Were Here to the Pros and Cons Of Hitchhiking with Roger Waters, after his break with the other band members, as well as his work for the new live show of The Wall. Thirty years after the first live performance was staged, Roger Waters is of course taking the show back on the road for a multi-city tour of the US from September 2010 to be followed in the spring of 2011 by a jaunt around Europe, bringing the album and the band right back into the headlines.

Publisher Michael Dover said: "Somehow Gerald has managed to smooth ruffled feathers and the protagonists of the past cheerfully recall epic battles in the pages of this book. With The Wall about to collapse nightly in all the great cities of North America and Europe over the next year this is a more than timely book".

Gerald added: "This book is, to a certain extent, a report from a war zone, a personal view of those six years when I worked closely with the band, before and after they broke up. It is also a glimpse of some of the immense body of work I produced with them of which I am immensely proud. I was delighted to get the surviving members of the band, as well as Sir Alan Parker, to share their reminiscences of those times with me".

Having been very fortunate to have seen some sample pages and images, we know that this really will be a book that all Pink Floyd fans will love. We're sure you will be knocked out by the quality of the book, and the depth of insight and the promised, never-before-seen material, is quite breathtaking.

We'll be covering this book in more detail as the publication date gets closer; in the meantime, secure your copy now, saving up to 37% off the retail price, by pre-ordering from Amazon UK, Amazon US/International, Amazon Canada, Amazon France, Amazon Germany, or Play.com.
