With just about three weeks to go until the long-awaited release of David Gilmour Live In Gdańsk, activity is certainly hotting up. Regular visitors to David's official site (www.DavidGilmour.com) and the associated blog will be well aware of how much there is going on, including the various purchasing options for the five different packages. Some stores will be including an extra CD, there's various different video clips at different retailers websites, and so on. Check out the blog for all the info.
However, they've announced a couple of major news items for the US and UK regions, which we thought it best to tell you about in case you didn't already know...
First, there will be two appearances by David and his band on UK TV. First, they will be performing live on BBC HD and BBC2 TV's "Later...With Jools Holland", on September 23rd, at 10pm. This is a half-hour programme, with one song from David, and an extended version of the show will air on September 26th which will include three songs - 'Astronomy Domine', 'Fat Old Sun' and 'This Heaven'.
BBC broadcasts in most regions of the UK on analogue, digital Freeview, Virgin Media cable TV and Sky Digital. Satellite viewers in Northern Europe can commonly receive BBC as well. The BBC iPlayer service at www.BBC.co.uk (and on Virgin Media cable) will also allow you to watch it on demand for seven days following broadcast, but this is only for those who are UK-based. Occasionally, the 'Later...With Jools Holland' page at MySpace includes video, so that might be another option at some point in the future.
UPDATE, September 22nd: David's website advise that
this is still going ahead, but as a tribute to Richard, 'Remember A
Day' and 'The Blue' will be performed, and David will be chatting with
Jools too.
Digital channel BBC4 TV will also have an hour from the Gdańsk concert on September 26th, along with 30 minutes from the documentary found on the concert DVD in the retail package.
And, just to get you in the mood, the UK's Sky Arts channel this coming Saturday (September 6th) at 9pm has a condensed version of Remember That Night.
To our US friends now, and September 22nd is the date you need to put in your diary. Around 106 US movie theatres will be screening a one-night-only big screen version of Live In Gdańsk on that day.
We know that many of you enjoyed the similar screening for the Remember That Night release, so this is sure to be popular. Not least, the 108 minute presentation will include the audio-visual presentation of five songs not included on the Concert DVD with the live album.
The whole programme has been re-transferred from the original source masters by director Gavin Elder, and the sound will be played out in full Surround Sound in every cinema. Visuals will be a mix of HD and SD (the close-ups on the musicians themselves), and David's site points out that some songs (in particular Take A Breath and Astronomy Domine) are very heavy on strobe effects, so the show is NOT suitable for those with photo-sensitive epilepsy or other such conditions.
More details will be available at www.TheBiggerPicture.us where you can also find a very nice trailer for the screenings...
