Currently running is FIESA 2013, the 11th International Sand Sculpture Festival, held in Pêra, Algarve, that each year is dedicated to a different theme. As Brain Damage visitor Dave Roe reports, this year the theme is music - and he has kindly sent over pictures of the David Gilmour sculpture, along with a Wall-themed creation, which is also very well detailed, and shows a good degree of imagination and knowledge of The Wall.

FIESA is considered the largest event of its kind in the world and uses forty thousand tons of sand, which are carved annually by fifty artists, national and international, with sculptures that reach twelve feet tall. It can be visited day or night when the sculptures are illuminated.
It is open to the public every day between now and September 15th, from 10am until midnight, and between September 16th and October 25th from 10am until 8pm. Tickets and more information from Fiesa.org.
