Something slightly different for the Brain Damage
Gallery pages today: an Italian based aircraft propeller
company - GT Propellers - who have been producing props in wood
and composite materials since 1969, have a Pink Floyd and David
Gilmour fan in their midst.
Alex Tonini from GT has been in touch to tell us about the prop
you see here. It is to honour the Floyd's 1987 track, Learning
To Fly. Lyrics from the song have been applied to a laminated
wood, 173cm sized prop which weighs around 4kgs. This type of
prop is typically fitted to flying school/instructor planes with
around 100HP - so Learning To Fly seemed eminently suitable!
A specialist in their field, GT Propellers have made more than
5,000 of the props running worldwide since 1990. They've created
this special prop purely "for passion, and not for commercial
purposes", and is due to go into service in the air, very
shortly.
Below are some images from the creation of the custom propeller, through to the completed item, shown in a field but before it was attached to the front of a training plane, ready to inspire future pilots!
