Our friend Fredrik Johansson has been in touch with a special treat exclusively for Brain Damage visitors - some previously unseen Pink Floyd concert pictures from a 1970 show which included an early version of what ended up as Atom Heart Mother. Over to Fredrik:
My colleague Gunnar Sjödin at the Halmstad Culture School - where I work as bass and guitar teacher - was fixing and repairing my upright bass. When the work was done and it was time for me to pick up the bass at his home, he showed me one of his old photo albums, which featured some really nice live photos of Pink Floyd.
Being a Floyd fan - who had only seen five "modern shows" (Copenhagen 1988, Stockholm 1989, Gothenburg 1994 and the last two Earls Court shows in 1994) it was really nice to hear about Pink Floyd live in Sweden, 1970.
The concert was on 20th March, at Akademiska Föreningen in Lund, Sweden, and Gunnar was blown away by the power of the sound in the first song, Astronomy Domine. His absolute high light of the show was the new piece Atom Heart Mother suite, which no one had heard before, still to be released on album, which concluded the show.
Gunnar kindly scanned his pictures from the show, and gave his blessing for them to be shared with you here on Brain Damage. I haven't seen any pictures from this show before, so it's a nice find.
According to Glenn Povey's book 'In the Flesh' the set list was: Astronomy Domine, Careful with that axe Eugene, Cymbaline, A Saucerful of secrets, The Embryo, Interstellar Overdrive, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, and encore: Atom Heart Mother.
What a great set list! Now, above and below, here's the photos:
