The UK's Channel 4 TV station are broadcasting another in their series of "100 best" programmes soon - this time focusing on the 100 Greatest Pop Videos Of All Time. The chart will form part of the show as they discuss the history and impact of the pop video. They are currently taking votes from the public from a shortlist of 125. So, if you feel Pink Floyd's video for "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)", which held the coveted number one spot in the charts at the end of the seventies and start of the eighties, deserves a high place in the chart, vote now.
The videos are listed in alphabetical order, with Pink Floyd sitting at number 84. You need to choose a
total of 10 videos - others that might take your fancy could be the superb videos from Pink Floyd's peers The Rolling Stones ("We Love You") and The Who ("Pinball Wizard" with Elton John) - both, in our view, great clips that deserve to be seen again. Once the votes have been counted, the completed chart will then be counted down over a four week period.
The video for "Another Brick" features a mix of Gerald Scarfe's animation with footage of school kids. Trivia fans should note that if you stand at the door of the band's Britannia Row studios, and turn 180 degrees, the landings of the flats directly opposite look suspiciously like those seen in the video!
With thanks to our friend Bert Van Kalker for letting us know about this.
