Brain Damage and A Fleeting Glimpse

Pink Floyd 1987WELCOME TO THE 26th YEAR OF BRAIN DAMAGE, YOUR PINK FLOYD, DAVID GILMOUR, NICK MASON, SYD BARRETT, RICHARD WRIGHT AND ROGER WATERS NEWS RESOURCE!

It's 2025! This year sees the 50th anniversary of Wish You Were Here, which is an incredible thought; where does the time go?!

We now know that Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII on Blu-ray, 2CD, 2LP, DVD, digital and cinema screenings are on their way, with the releases on May 2nd, and the cinema screenings shortly before. NOT to be missed!

There's also been three Record Store Day releases released on April 12th, from David Gilmour, Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets, and Roger Waters which are also definitely worth tracking down, either in a participating store, or online, now that RSD has finished.

Last year, David Gilmour's superb new album, Luck and Strange, was released in a variety of formats, and a selection of coloured vinyls. A limited number of concert dates thrilled crowds in Brighton and London, England, Rome, Italy, and Los Angeles and New York, USA. Rome shows were filmed for release at some point...watch this space!

The Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets 2024 Set The Controls tour revealed a band in even better form than the 2022/23 shows which managed to exceed everyone's hopes and expectations! Our sincerest hopes are that they continue, but in the meantime, there's the RSD release, and the earlier live recording from London's Roundhouse on Blu-ray, DVD/2CD, and 2LP which is really excellent.

Of course, Roger Waters read three extracts from his memoirs in October 2023 at the London Palladium, so it might not be too long before that is published...he's also working on his new album based around The Bar - we'll let you know as soon as we get all the info!

Prog Music Awards 2012The Prog Rock Magazine first annual Progressive Music Awards are now live, and inviting votes from people worldwide in a number of categories. The publication said that "after years of entertaining millions of fans the world over, Prog magazine feels that acknowledging the great progressive artists of the past and present is long overdue. So here we do just that, doffing our caps to a splendid array of artists from over the past 40 years that have seen some of the most imaginative and thought provoking rock music ever created. It continues to enthral us here at Prog magazine as much as it does you readers who buy the magazine. This is about us giving something back. So have your say, and vote in the first five reader driven categories – you could even win a bumper goody bag full of prog delights from all the nominees and a framed piece of prog artwork from The Flood Gallery."

Specifically of interest to Brain Damage readers are in three distinct categories...the first of which will see one of the reader-chosen candidates win:

  • GRAND DESIGN - Celebrating the artistic achievement for the raft of Special and Deluxe Editions that populate the modern progressive genre. Pink Floyd are in this category for the Immersion reissues, and this is one of the reader vote categories...so make sure you place your vote!
  • LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT which includes PINK FLOYD...but will be chosen by the Prog editorial team.
  • The PROG GOD category which has Roger Waters as one of the options, which will also be chosen by the Prog team.

The award ceremony takes place in London in September.
