Just a bit of advance notice on some Pink Floyd/David Gilmour related
broadcasts which are coming up on the BBC's television and radio
service.
First off, the BBC's High
Definition channel is airing a number of test programmes and previews,
in the run up to it going live. Amongst the programmes they are
showcasing is Later With Jools Holland. Many of you will recall that
David Gilmour and his band appeared on this on May 26th, and played
Take A Breath, On An Island and Arnold Layne.
They are airing three of the
Later... shows this coming Saturday (August 5th) and Sunday (August
6th), from 9pm. Unfortunately, the BBC website does not detail which
shows are airing. If you have the necessary equipment, it may well be
worth tuning in just in case DG appears!
Elsewhere, on the Mixing It show
(22:30hrs to 23:30hrs, Friday August 11th on BBC Radio Three), Robert
Sandall and Mark Russell talk to record producer Joe Boyd, whose recent
book White Bicycles tells the story of music in the 60s. More details
on the book here (and a review coming soon!). The programme includes music by Pink Floyd, Nick Drake, Chris McGregor and The Watersons.
Finally, Don't Start me Talking
on BBC Radio 2 on Tuesday August 8th (at 21:30hrs) promises "The story
of pop music in Britain told exclusively by the fans. Fans who were
there at the time offer their unique perspective on the careers of
artists like Bill Haley, Elvis, Cliff Richard, the Beatles, the Rolling
Stones, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, the Sex Pistols and others." It is a
four part series, and the first deals with the fifties, when we can
expect Pink Floyd to be covered is open to guesses! But
something to look out for.
BBC Radio can be heard via FM,
DAB, cable/satellite and Freeview services. It can also be heard live
and on demand for up to seven days following broadcast, through www.BBC.co.uk.
Our thanks to David Haddock for his help with this info.
