A
number of the guests and musicians taking part in the Syd Barrett
tribute evening in London on May 10th (the day before Roger Waters
plays the first of two nights at London's Earls Court) have now been
announced.
Tickets for the event, being held at the Barbican Hall, are going fast
and at time of writing, just a single ticket is left in the stalls!
There are still circle and balcony tickets though, if you act quickly...
Billed as "Madcap's Last Laugh" the event kicks off at 7:30pm and
forms part of The Barbican's Only Connect series, which sets out to
explore the boundaries where music, film and art meet.
This
special homage, curated with Barrett's first producer Joe Boyd, is said
to feature "many special guests" performing Syd’s songs as well as rare
film footage, projections of Syd's paintings, lighting effects and
spoken word.
Confirmed to date as appearing are: Kevin Ayers, The Bees, Vashti
Bunyan, King Creosote with Gordon Anderson (The Aliens), Mike Heron,
Robyn Hitchcock, Chrissie Hynde and more to be confirmed. The house
band includes Andy Bell on bass (Oasis), Simon Finley on drums (Echo
& The Bunnymen), and Ted Barnes on guitar (Beth Orton). As we get
details of the additional performers, we will let you know.
The lighting design has been done by long-time Floyd associate Peter
Wynne Wilson (who also lived with Syd for a while), and the producers
of the event are just as associated with the band, being Joe Boyd and
Nick Laird-Clowes.
Tickets for the event, priced at £15, £20 and £25, are now on sale through this special link, and more information on The Barbican itself can be found at www.barbican.org.uk.
