With an eye-catching, fluorescent
pink cover, the new issue of the UK's respected "Record Collector"
magazine (dated September 2006) includes a fascinating retrospective of
Syd Barrett's career.

Record Collector,
Sept 2006 |
The eleven page feature gives a
reasonably detailed overview of Syd, and investigates his recorded
legacy. In a lavishly illustrated article, renouned Floyd singles
collector (and friend of BD) Hervé Denoyelle shares some choice
examples from his collection.
The text, written by Mark
Paytress with the assistance of Ron Geesin's son Joe, has a strong
focus on the music, with a look at the background to many of Syd's key
pieces, and the recordings that brought them to us.
Breakout boxes take a look at the
shortlived Stars group; journalist Chris Welch recalls a meeting with
Barrett in 1967 for the Melody Maker; and producer Joe Boyd talks about
the year he spent with Barrett and the rest of the band.
For those unfamiliar with this
publication, it is aimed squarely at the collectors amongst us. This
article is no exception, with a vast array of incredibly rare Floyd
singles, many with promotional sleeves, well photographed and
presented. With guide prices in the hundreds of pounds, they are not
for the faint hearted or casual collectors... but fascinating to browse
through.
The magazine is published today
(August 3rd) and is also available in a number of countries as an
import. It can also be bought direct from www.RecordCollectorMag.com,
which has a large number of back issues for sale, including other
issues which feature Pink Floyd heavily (for example, March 2006).
