Brain Damage and A Fleeting Glimpse

Pink Floyd 1987WELCOME TO THE 26th YEAR OF BRAIN DAMAGE, YOUR PINK FLOYD, DAVID GILMOUR, NICK MASON, SYD BARRETT, RICHARD WRIGHT AND ROGER WATERS NEWS RESOURCE!

It's 2025! This year sees the 50th anniversary of Wish You Were Here, which is an incredible thought; where does the time go?!

We now know that Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII on Blu-ray, 2CD, 2LP, DVD, digital and cinema screenings are on their way, with the releases on May 2nd, and the cinema screenings shortly before. NOT to be missed!

There's also three Record Store Day releases to come on April 12th, from David Gilmour, Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets, and Roger Waters which are also definitely worth tracking down, either in a participating store, or online afterwards.

Last year, David Gilmour's superb new album, Luck and Strange, was released in a variety of formats, and a selection of coloured vinyls. A limited number of concert dates thrilled crowds in Brighton and London, England, Rome, Italy, and Los Angeles and New York, USA. Rome shows were filmed for release at some point...watch this space!

The Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets 2024 Set The Controls tour revealed a band in even better form than the 2022/23 shows which managed to exceed everyone's hopes and expectations! Our sincerest hopes are that they continue, but in the meantime, there's the RSD release, and the earlier live recording from London's Roundhouse on Blu-ray, DVD/2CD, and 2LP which is really excellent.

Of course, Roger Waters read three extracts from his memoirs in October 2023 at the London Palladium, so it might not be too long before that is published...he's also working on his new album based around The Bar - we'll let you know as soon as we get all the info!

Syd Barrett - A Very Irregular Head US edition Syd Barrett - A Very Irregular Head

"Syd Barrett: A Very Irregular Head", the book by Rob Chapman that is in stores now, has received glowing reviews from the press and many Pink Floyd fans alike. Published by Faber and Faber in the UK (cover thumbnail far right), and Da Capo Press in the US (cover thumbnail near right), it aims to be "the first authoritative and exhaustively researched biography of Syd Barrett that fully celebrates his life and legacy as a musician, lyricist and artist, and which highlights the influence that he continues to have over contemporary bands and music fans alike."

With the book running to some 448 pages, and the help of Syd's sister Rosemary, there is plenty of information that Chapman has brought together to tell Syd's story. Thanks to our friends at Da Capo, we had two copies of this book to give away to lucky Brain Damage visitors in our latest contest...were YOU one of the lucky winners in this very popular giveaway? Read on to find out...

To be in with a chance of winning a copy of the book, you had to answer our question: what was Roger Barrett's middle name? Most of you knew that it was, of course, Keith!

The big pile of entries were sifted through, and an independent person picked the two winners. Our congratulations, therefore, to:

  • Sharon Woods, Harper's Ferry, WV, USA
  • Wayne Shelor, Bradenton, FL, USA

Well done to these two, and commiserations to those who weren't so lucky this time. If you weren't picked, and still want to add this book to your Floydian bookshelf, you can take advantage of up to 40% discount off the recommended retail price, by ordering through the following links: Amazon UK, Amazon US/International, Amazon Canada, Amazon France, or Amazon Germany. You can also order it through Play.com to take advantage of their special pricing, too.

Orders from the US and Canadian stores will be for the Da Capo edition, and European orders for the Faber and Faber edition. Apart from the cover, both editions are identical.
