Storm ThorgersonThursday evening, the Idea Generation gallery in London moved closer to the conclusion of its hosting of the StormStudios exhibition Big And Small (our review of the opening night can be read here), with a very special invitation-only event attended by a select few. The evening was staged as a launch event for the new book which takes in the album (and related) graphics created by our friend Storm Thorgerson and his team over the past four years.

The Raging Storm, more on which is below, is a beautiful, large format tome which no home should be without - our review is on its way, but suffice it to say that there's some wonderful new and previously unseen Pink Floyd imagery within its pages, alongside recent work for a number of other artists.

The launch event saw a number of familiar faces attending, including Jenny Spires, and the man who provided the very first Floyd album cover - Vic Singh. We chatted at length with Vic, who revealed that he is just as busy with photography these days, working on a major new project. The massed ranks of StormStudios were also all there, and various conversations were had over the course of the evening.

Who better to describe the book's aims than Storm himself? "The book largely includes previously unpublished material plus accompanying text expaining derivation method and tales of untamed musicianly behaviour. It was designed by us lot, reproduced from orginal scans and elegantly printed in Italy before they went broke. It looks a treat, even if I say so myself. We bravely opted for an untypical landscape format, but we feel it works fine.

The Raging Storm - Stormstudios"One will find designs for a variety of bands from classic rock to ambient, from techno to jam bands, from the established to the newly emergent including: Biffy Clyro, Shpongle, The Cranberries, Pendulum, Pink Floyd, Muse, The Wombats and The Steve Miller Band amongst others.

"My copy editor detected a greater degree of anger in the text than fitting as I moaned about rejections, which happen to us all, but which we donna like - hence the title. My name is hard to resist in titling and titles are a nightmare as musicians, tamed or otherwise, will tell you."

The Raging Storm comes in both hardback and deluxe editions, the latter being a hardback and fine art print emsemble, of which there are just 10 and which are all signed, titled and numbered by Storm. The hardback is a limited edition, wibalin covered book with a custom designed logo in Luxor block foil, with semi-matt paper within, and very nicely printed. Either edition can be bought from the specially created Raging Storm website.

They've also designed - using images from the book, adapted for the purpose - a monthly calendar in digital format, to use on your computer or other digital device (including smartphones). This is free to download each month, so grab November's now while the month is still with us! They're doing one design a month, right through to January 2013, and you can get it through this link.
