With Roger Waters' opening concert on his 2006 tour a week and a half away, AOL UK have today announced that they will be broadcasting the show live, worldwide! The concert promises a blend of old Pink Floyd songs (including a second half devoted to their 1973 classic, Dark Side Of The Moon), and Roger's solo material.

The concert is being held in Lisbon, Portugal, on June 2nd, and is part of the Rock In Rio festival which takes place over five days. Other stars taking part include Sting and Guns N' Roses.

Sponsored by UK telecoms giant O2, and run in conjunction with Network Live, www.aol.co.uk/rio will be airing the full performances of ALL the artists, free of charge, on May 26th and 27th, and June 2nd, 3rd and 4th. The performances will remain available for 30 days following the show at the same place.

To see and hear Roger in action, you will need to "tune in" at 11:45pm GMT, on June 2nd, when his part of the show is due to start. We understand that he will be performing his full set at this show. As yet, we don't know if this is one of the shows that Nick Mason, his friend and former Pink Floyd colleague, will be guesting at.

On the subject of Roger's shows, he was in Warsaw, Poland, at the beginning of this month to talk about the forthcoming Ca Ira show in Poznan, on July 7th. He held a press conference on May 8th, of which edited highlights can now be seen. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD or VIEW but be aware, it is only suitable for those with fast connections. The five minute video is around 20MB in size!

On the left in the video is the Ca Ira show director Janusz Jozefowicz. The subtitles that appear during the recording translate thus:

  • "o polskiej wersji widowiska" = about the Polish version of the show. Jozefowicz says: "I read the opera in my own way and I don't wanna do the show about the French Revolution. I think that nobody cares about the storming of the Bastille nowadays. Today people care about tearing down the Twin Towers. I want to tell about revolutions as a way to improve the world. So we will start with the French Revolution, but we will talk then about Spring of Nations, Communist Revolutions and so on. We will talk about freedom, about the quest for freedom. It will be more contemporary than historical.

  • "rock a Ca Ira" = rock music in Ca Ira

  • "inspiracja Procol Harum?" = Procol Harum as inspiration?

  • "Pink Floyd z Watersem?" = Pink Floyd with Waters?

  • "plany na przyszlosc" = future plans

It is an interesting insight into Roger's current plans, and what he wants to do for the future. He mentions that, once he has finished the rock tour, he intends making "a rock and roll album - but I've been saying that for the last twelve years! I keep writing songs and then deciding they don't quite express exactly what it is I'm trying to say!"

Our thanks to Marek Grzesiak for all his help with this.
