Cinema JeninRoger Waters is one of the celebrity supporters of the renovation of Cinema Jenin in Palestine. The cinema, the only one in the area, closed some 22 years ago and quickly fell into severe disrepair. Jenin has been the scene of some of the worst violence between Israelis and Palestinians. An international effort is now in full flow with the aim to get the cinema operational again, for the people who live there.

The reopening of the cinema is the dream of one man, whose 11 year old son was shot during the conflicts in the region, and whom decided to donate his son's organs to Israeli children. Indeed, the initial presentation is intended to be the film of his story, "Heart of Jenin". This will be on the opening night of the first Jenin International Film Festival. Amongst the donations have been Roger's gift of 50,000 euros, and the BBC reports that he has given a "state-of-the-art sound system" for the cinema.

More information on the project, and the film, can be found at www.CinemaJenin.org.
