On the day Pink Floyd's former front man Roger Waters launched a War on Want campaign on Israel's dividing wall, the World Court (the International Court Of Justice in the Hague) declared the wall illegal. Roger is the first of many musicians, poets, comedians and actors to sign an 8 foot tall mock up of the wall, which will travel round the UK and be presented to the UK government as a petition. Roger appended "We don't need no thought control" under his signature.
The campaign focuses on poverty and marginalization caused by the dividing wall which separates Israel
and the occupied territories of Palestine.
Roger Waters, launching War on Want's 'The Writing's on the Wall' campaign said of the wall "The poverty inflicted by the wall has been devastating for Palestinians. It has kept children from their schools, the sick from proper medical care and continues to destroy the Palestinian economy. I fully support War on Want’s campaign, and hope that as many people as possible sign the wall - as a strong message to the UK government that immediate action is essential."
War on Want's wall has been signed so far by: Roger Waters, Ken Livingstone, Naomi Klein, Robin Cook, Tony Benn, Damien Rice (singer), Shane McGowan (singer), Billy Bragg, Sian Evans (Kosheen), Mark and Lard (DJs), Jerry Dammers (Specials), and a number of British Members Of Parliament.
