To mark the then forthcoming world
premiere performance of Roger Waters' Ca Ira, being held in Poznan,
Poland, SonyBMG released a special limited Polish edition of the album
on August 21st, complete with custom artwork on the front and back of
the package.
As you will see from the pictures
to the right, the front has the design used in the concert's
promotional materials, and promotes the concert that was held on Friday
night (August 25th).
On the rear of the CD, there is a pre-printed autograph and dedication "To my Polish friends" from Roger himself.
With limited availability in
stores, the edition seems to have been principally created for sale at
the concert itself, although some stores in Poland have also been
stocking this. No doubt with the help of the local radio station's name
on the front cover, the price of the double album was fixed at around
10-15 euroes, so has apparently sold strongly.
As we noted a couple of days ago,
the show itself was a huge success, and involved several hundred
artists - a number of costumed actors, an orchestra, choir, stuntmen
and opera singers - along with beautifully designed sets and scenery.
There are plans to stage at least
16 open-air productions of the opera in venues across Europe during
2007, according to the promoters. Naturally, as we get more detail on
the additional shows, we will let you know straight away - so please
don't email us to ask when and where they might be. Full information
will be on the site!
Our thanks to Marek Grzesiak for his help with this information.
