Last minute preparations are no doubt taking place as we type this for tonight's Stand Up for Heroes event being held in New York.
Amongst the artists confirmed for the 7th annual evening of comedy and music are the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Bruce Springsteen and Roger Waters, and it is being held at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, at 8pm this evening. Tickets for the event, which started at $250, are all sold out, but people across the world are able to enjoy the concert live, as it happens!
Roger Waters' performance will feature a band comprised of nearly two dozen musicians and singers - all of whom are wounded active service members or veterans representing all branches of the US armed forces including the Musicorps Wounded Warrior band from Walter Reed hospital. From the rehearsal pictures we've seen, we know that also performing with Roger will be Jon Carin, GE Smith, and Dave Kilminster. Roger's set, along with the rest of the show, will be available via a live webcast featuring a Google+ Hangout. RSVP now for the event: http://g.co/standup2013
Since its inception, the event has raised more than $16 million to support wounded warriors and their families. It brings together leaders from military, business, entertainment, government, and philanthropy to raise funds to help post-911 injured service members and their families thrive long after they return to the home front.
Stand Up for Heroes marks the sacrifice of returning service members, veterans and their families by offering support in the effort to heal the physical and psychological wounds of war.
UPDATE: the following video shows the arrival at the venue of the performers, including interviews:
