The internet auction site eBay is currently hosting the sale of some incredible, rare footage of Pink Floyd from 1968. The footage, on 16mm film, consists of three takes of their track Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun, shot for the BBC and used, in a heavily edited, and red-washed format, in the 1968 documentary All My Loving, which was recently repeated as part of BBC4 TV's look at the sixties.
The text of the auction, which finishes in the early hours of Tuesday June 29th, reads as follows:
"Pink Floyd 16mm Archive Film and DVD - Original 16mm footage of Pink Floyd performing Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun. Excellent condition, unique. Professionally shot. 16mm colour print and separate 16mm sound rushes, with original clapper boards. It comprises three takes of the band performing the song. One is complete, a few moments are missing from the picture but the sound is continuous. Featuring Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason. Shot in late 1960's or early 70's. 15 minutes of footage. Mono, high quality sound. Also included in price, a high quality PAL telecine on DVD of the footage in full and an edited version."
There is a 17MB low resolution (but still wonderful!) Windows Media Video format file that you can view or download through this link. At 17MB it is a lengthly download for many.
At time of writing, the auction has reached £377 but is expected to end much higher than that - a testament to the rarity of this footage.
