We recently reported on how the
release of Pink Floyd's PULSE on DVD, along with tours from David
Gilmour (with Richard Wright), and Roger Waters (at some shows, with
Nick Mason) has resulted in dramatic sales figures worldwide. We know
many of you are fascinated with this sort of detail, and almost three
month's later, Floyd's domination of record stores continues!
Within the US, the two-disc set
has been the top selling DVD since its release. It has held the
Billboard number one spot throughout, with the exception of one week
(September 16th) when Dream Theater managed to push them down to number
two, and another week when U2 bumped them in the same way (more on that
DVD below). There are no signs at the moment of sales dropping, and
with the lucrative Christmas market looming, sales are expected to stay
high.
According to Columbia Records,
PULSE has sold over 250,000 copies on DVD to date, which means that the
RIAA have certified it "multiplatinum". In terms of total all-time
music DVD sales, is in third place behind 2003's Led Zeppelin set, and
2005's "Eagles Farewell Tour" DVD.
With Roger Waters currently
performing DSOTM (which appears on PULSE's second disc) on his tour,
impetus for this is naturally running high, and the original album also
features highly on Billboard's charts at the moment, sitting at number
two on their Top Pop Catalog chart.
Turning to the southern
hemisphere, the story is pretty much the same. PULSE went ten weeks out
of ten at number one, achieving seven times platinum sales, but another
of David Mallet's brilliantly directed live shows, U2's Zoo TV Live
From Sydney DVD has just pipped PULSE for number one in Australia.
Being released in Australia just
a month before U2 tour there for the first time in 8 years, it was
inevitable that U2 would go to the top of the charts, which they have
been at for two weeks out of two now, with PULSE right behind it in
second place both those weeks.
By the sound of it, most of you
probably have bought this already. However, if you haven't yet bought
your copy of PULSE, you can get it, with a discount, through the
following special links: Amazon UK, Amazon US/International, Canada, France, or Germany.
Any item bought through these links at Amazon (not just Floyd items)
helps with the running costs of the site, and we really appreciate it.
