Today brings a number of Pink Floyd-related news items and updates your way, including information on the release of a Richard Wright-penned song, and plenty of David Gilmour snippets, including details of a massive sweepstake being run by Columbia for US fans.

Helen Boulding
Helen Boulding's single
Firstly, to the new song. Up and coming singer Helen Boulding has brought out her second single, "I Don't Know What I Want But I Know What I Need" this week (in the UK stores yesterday). The second track on the CD - "Hazel Eyes" - was co-written by Richard Wright and former Squeeze frontman Chris Difford. Wright fans will know that this is the first songwriting heard from Richard since his excellent Broken China album which was released in 1996.

More information on Helen can be found at her website, and the single is in selected UK stores now. It can also be ordered through the following special links: Amazon UK/Europe, Amazon US/International, Canada, France, or Germany.

Yesterday, on the same day that DavidGilmour.com was upgraded with a dramatic, and rather lovely, redesign, we brought you the news about the special concert David is playing for the BBC to record. The BBC website has (at time of writing this) conflicting dates showing for the broadcast of the recording (it isn't going out live).

On the BBC Radio 2 events page, they give the broadcast date as Saturday March 11th. On the ticket competition page, it shows as Saturday April 11th... we have checked with the BBC, and it is definitely the March date (apart from anything, April 11th falls on a Tuesday!) We expect the competition page to be updated in due course with the corrected date.

Talking of competitions, full details are now available of Columbia Records' massive sweepstake to win a whole load of On An Island goodies. columbiarecords.com/davidgilmour is the place to go to for eligible US residents (only), who want to win the grand prize of Gibson Amphitheatre concert tickets, round trip tickets to LA, hotel stay at the legendary Chateau Marmont hotel, transportation to and from the concert, an autographed David Gilmour guitar, and the "On an Island” CD plus the David Gilmour catalog collection and DVD. Phew! And we thought Santa took a holiday this time of year!

If that's not enough prizes, 25 second place winners will receive a signed David Gilmour lithograph, and 10 third place winners will receive a David Gilmour baseball hat and the On An Island CD.

To enter the draw, visit the site where you can pre-order the album; however, entry is not conditional on pre-ordering through the link given there - you can enter without buying through them. We know a number of you have already ordered through Amazon and other online retailers.

We wish any Brain Damage visitors who enter the sweepstakes the best of luck. Let us know if you are one of the lucky winners!

News has come our way of the plans to reissue David's first two solo albums. Work is still ongoing on these, and whilst it is hoped that they will be released on March 28th (as a number of retailers are quoting), it is not guaranteed and the date may well change.

Once we get full details of these reissues (in terms of any differences in the packaging or mastering) we will let you know. In the meantime, you can preorder David's first album, from 1978, through these links: Amazon US/International, Canada, UK/Europe, or France.

If you need to add his second album, "About Face", to your collection, use these links: Amazon US/International, Canada, UK/Europe, or France.

As soon as we have more information on these two releases, we will let you know.
