The UK monthly Classic Rock Magazine features Pink Floyd heavily in their latest issue, just hitting
store shelves this week. The band are the subject of their regular "Buyer's Guide", their look at the artist's back catalogue, highlighting the essential albums, and the ones to steer clear of at all costs!
The magazine notes that "it's difficult to overstate the influence of Pink Floyd as a defining force in rock culture. And it's not just about the number of records they've sold. They have made some of the most amazing, most singular music in rock..."
Their essentials are, naturally, Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here. Classed as "Superior, but a step down from the top rung", are Meddle, Animals and The Wall, and their album to avoid at all costs is Ummagumma! All of the band's catalogue are covered and ranked, with the exception of solo albums.
There's also an interesting section on "The Floyd We'd Like Released", where they discuss what they feel SHOULD be released, including a compilation of Gerald Scarfe's animations for Pink Floyd, on one DVD. This is a cracking idea and one we'd love to see!
Elsewhere, there's a full review over two pages of The Wall on DVD. Included are some nice shots - stills from the movie, and a great picture of the black inflatable pig used in the concerts, looking very bleary eyed and hungover!
Our thanks to John Johnstone for providing us with this info...
