Brain Damage and A Fleeting Glimpse

Pink Floyd 1987WELCOME TO THE 26th YEAR OF BRAIN DAMAGE, YOUR PINK FLOYD, DAVID GILMOUR, NICK MASON, SYD BARRETT, RICHARD WRIGHT AND ROGER WATERS NEWS RESOURCE!

It's 2025! This year sees the 50th anniversary of Wish You Were Here, which is an incredible thought; where does the time go?!

We now know that Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII on Blu-ray, 2CD, 2LP, DVD, digital and cinema screenings are on their way, with the releases on May 2nd, and the cinema screenings shortly before. NOT to be missed!

There's also been three Record Store Day releases released on April 12th, from David Gilmour, Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets, and Roger Waters which are also definitely worth tracking down, either in a participating store, or online, now that RSD has finished.

Last year, David Gilmour's superb new album, Luck and Strange, was released in a variety of formats, and a selection of coloured vinyls. A limited number of concert dates thrilled crowds in Brighton and London, England, Rome, Italy, and Los Angeles and New York, USA. Rome shows were filmed for release at some point...watch this space!

The Nick Mason's Saucerful Of Secrets 2024 Set The Controls tour revealed a band in even better form than the 2022/23 shows which managed to exceed everyone's hopes and expectations! Our sincerest hopes are that they continue, but in the meantime, there's the RSD release, and the earlier live recording from London's Roundhouse on Blu-ray, DVD/2CD, and 2LP which is really excellent.

Of course, Roger Waters read three extracts from his memoirs in October 2023 at the London Palladium, so it might not be too long before that is published...he's also working on his new album based around The Bar - we'll let you know as soon as we get all the info!

Back on February 15th, we told you that Pink Floyd were going through their stage props, sitting in storage, to see what is still in reasonable condition.

One of the major pieces that they have sorted out, and is now just about to appear on eBay, is the legendary mirror ball flower, used for many years in various iterations and configurations as a focal part of the show, during Shine On You Crazy Diamond, but most recently on the 1994 Division Bell tour.

Here's how Paula Webb, who has been sorting out the stage stuff (and who also was responsible for the Paris Interstellar exhibition), describes them:

Pink Floyd Division Bell Tour Props

Individual Mirror Ball Petals from the Division Bell Mirrorball

Designed by Mark Fisher and made in California

These incredible petals formed the 6-metre diameter giant mirror ball that rose 18 metres on a retractable tower out of the mixing desk and burst apart, flooding the stadium with spectacular light before the show ended with a fireworks display.

Each mirrorball petal comes with a certificate of authenticity and of course, toured the world!

They aren't the smallest of pieces of memorabilia that you could own... they need two people to lift each petal as they weigh 60 kilos each (9 stone!!). They measure: 2.9 metres high x 1.25 metres wide x 6cm deep with a 36cm arc, and they do look stunning. See the photos here for an idea of what they are like...

The petals are due to appear on eBay next week, so keep an eye out for them. Very nice, unusual items, and genuine bits of Floyd equipment.

Our thanks to Paula for her invaluable help and the information.
