This week's issue (cover date July
22nd 2006) of long-running music magazine NME devotes a significant
amount of its pages to a tribute to "Pink Floyd's lost genius" Syd
Barrett.

NME, 22nd July 2006 |
Renaming itself for the occasion
"New Psychedelic Express", the issue includes a piece on the news of
his death and its effect on the rest of the floyd, a brief history of
his life, comments and memories from other musicians, fan tributes, a
list of tracks inspired by Syd, and the highlights of Nick Kent's 1974
NME piece on Syd, often referred to as the "definitive article" on
Barrett.
The whole of Kent's 1974 article can be seen at NME.com, where the magazine has also posted a gallery of pictures, and a message board relating to Barrett's passing.
The magazine itself has a nice
selection of archive pictures of Barrett, from the period of 1967 -
1971. There are no pictures of him going about his business in recent
years, unlike some of the daily newspapers which seemed to take delight
in showing him doing his shopping.
The NME can be bought from most
newsagents across the UK, and it is also available as an import in some
countries - the US, Canada, and most of Europe.
