Thursday, September 11th sees another episode in The History Channel's "Classic Cars" series. This channel broadcasts on UK satellite and cable, and can also be received in many parts of Europe. The programme, broadcast at 2:30pm BST (GMT +1 hour), and repeated an hour later on History Channel Plus One, includes Nick Mason. Here's the show's full synopsis:

Wheels of Gold talks to the stiff-lipped Coys team as they assemble 75 cars from all over the country into one sales room ready for auction, and asks what sort of people buy the really expensive classic cars, and why?

Alan Cowan provides part of the answer. He is Managing Director of 'Store-a-Car', a secret home for cars whose relationship with their owners is less than personal. Then there are those who have a more intimate relationship with their cars. Nick Mason, drummer for Pink Floyd, and amateur racing driver, describes how a childhood obsession became a reality once he could afford it. His collection includes them much-talked about '£10,000,000' Ferrari 250 GTO.

Ed Hubbard, the owner of the infamous 1930 Bentley 'Old Number One', talks about the recent controversial court case which ruled that Hubbard's car was the original despite its complete restoration. He explains how the history of the car is its most important asset - the metal relatively unimportant.

Is the value of a car a great engine, rarity, style or history? Whatever it is, many people have made a great deal of money out of the 'classic', as Wheels of Gold reveals.
