A new exhibition, currently running at the Buckinghamshire County Museum, celebrates Friars, the famous local Aylesbury music club. It’s a must see for everyone interested in music – take a nostalgic trip back to the 70s and 80s and discover the extraordinary range of great artists who played Friars from David Bowie to Genesis, King Crimson to U2, The Ramones to Roxy Music, The Jam to the Clash and many more. Founded in 1969, and still going strong today, Friars became famous for its great atmosphere, iconic bands and enthusiastic audience.

By visiting The Evolution Of Friars: The Local Music Club That Rocked The World, 1969-2014, you can see rare posters from 1969 to 2013, stunning rock photographs and unique items on loan from artists who performed there. On display are:

  • 1970s Pink Floyd drum kit: belonging to Nick Mason
  • Mike Rutherford of Genesis: famous double necked guitar
  • Bass guitar from Marillion
  • Edgar Broughton's 1962 Stratocaster
  • And much more…

Also on display is a piece of David Bowie’s shirt saved by a Friars member when it was thrown into the audience at the David Bowie and Spiders from Mars gig in 1972 at the Borough Assembly Hall, Aylesbury.

The exhibition runs until July 5th, 2014, at Buckinghamshire County Museum, Church Street, Aylesbury, and is open Tuesday to Saturday 10am to 5pm. Adults £4, students/ES40 holders £2, under 16s free. Tickets are available at the Museum on the day of your visit. Tickets are also available in advance from www.theticketsellers.co.uk or by phone 0844 870 000 (booking fees and other charges apply).
