The Olympus Racing website has recently added an interesting interview with Nick Mason, looking at his
racing career, and car ownership, in particular.
The interview is part of their "Stars and their cars" section, with celebrities talking about their pride and joys. Nick talks of how he "was brought up with cars. My father worked for the Shell film unit, making films about cars. He used to race and took me along, so my earliest memories are of Silverstone in the Fifties, when it was all straw bales and the lap timing was done from an old bus opposite the pits."
He talks of how his success as part of Pink Floyd enabled him to indulge his passion for cars: "I always had old cars and the success of the band meant I no longer had to sell one to buy another!"
Ferraris figure strongly in Nick's current selection of cars, and the Mason family connection to the Italian company, dating back to 1953, is discussed. Also covered is the present that Nick commissioned the Fender guitar company to make, after Ferrari helped repair his ex-Gilles Villeneuve Formula 1 car.
Nick even reveals his favourite musician joke in the interview - and the drummer ISN'T the butt of the punchline!
The interview, along with some great pictures of Nick, can be read at www.Olympus-Racing.com.
