This month sees three reissues hit the shelves, all featuring David Gilmour who was, at the time, taking a break from his Pink Floyd duties.

The first of these is the long-awaited DVD of John Martyn performing his 1990 comeback album, The Apprentice, live. In 1990, to coincide with the release of the album, John undertook a series of eleven concerts at the Shaw Theatre, London, as part of a three month tour. David guested at these London shows, and plays on the tracks 'John Wayne' and 'Look At That Girl'.

These concerts were filmed and the resulting video was released in 1990. The video was deleted in 1995 and copies that do exist are selling for £50 each. Now for the first time this concert is available as a DVD release.

John was moved to write The Apprentice having met a particularly ill looking man in a pub near the Sellafield nuclear recycling plant in Cumbria.

The DVD should be hitting the shelves as you read this (and indeed, some retailers already have this). Alternatively, this can be ordered, with a discount, through the following special links: Amazon US/International, UK/Europe, or Germany.

The other two reissues are part of a bigger programme bringing out a number of out of print Pete Townshend albums, the majority of which include bonus tracks. The reissues are to coincide with The Who going back on tour following some excellent shows in the UK recently (we saw the recent Brighton show, and the band have not lost any of their fire!).

Of principal interest to Floyd fans are White City and Deep End - Live. White City was released in 1985, and features some great Gilmour guitar work on Give Blood and White City Fighting. Both these tracks also appear in the film created to accompany the album. The reissue also includes the previously unreleased Night School and Save It For Later, plus a extended mix of Hiding Out (from a 12 inch single release of the time).

Deep End - Live was recorded at Brixton Academy in 1985, and Gilmour was part of Townshend's band (the eponymous Deep End) for the show. The principal aim was to help raise money for the Double O Charity, in aid of drug victims. David plays extensively throughout the show, and the album now includes Deep End's take on The Who's Magic Bus and Won't Get Fooled Again.

Release dates for these vary according to region, but chiefly fall around the end of July/start of August.
