For those who missed out on a piece of his artwork in the recent auction of his final belongings, fans of Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett have another opportunity to buy one of his pictures in an upcoming sale.
As with the previous items sold off, the picture is expected to sell for a lot of money...
The painting, shown to the right, is called "A Design for a Panel of Abstract Crosses", and the auctioneers, Cheffins, have given it a guide price of between £4000 and £6000 when it goes under the hammer in their upcoming Fine Art sale on February 7th and 8th. Syd's picture will be sold on the second day of this sale.
Barrett painted it in 1965 and gave it to his girlfriend, Vivien Brans. It was then passed to her nephew, who is from Cambridge.
Cheffins were the auction house who, in November 2006, sold over seventy items from Barrett's home in St Margaret's Square, Cambridge, raising over £120,000.
That sale overwhelmed Cheffins with the worldwide interest, and the fevered atmosphere in the auction room as the items sold stunned the auctioneers. They are expecting renewed interest with the offer of this previously unseen piece.
