Many of you will be aware of photographer Mick Rock's stunning "Psychedelic Renegades" book, published as a signed, limited edition by the specialist company Genesis Publications (reviewed in
full here). The book reveals Rock's archives of Syd Barrett shots, and indeed his old friend even
signed a frontispiece on the first 320, deluxe editions - these are hugely sought after these days
as they are one of the few authentic items signed by Barrett himself.
We now have details of the new, non-deluxe version that is being published worldwide soon, at a much more affordable price.
As our review of the Genesis edition stated, this is an enthralling, and beautiful, look at Syd - said to be Mick's entire archive - and this 'trade' edition should be an essential purchase for all those who couldn't get hold of the former. Copies still appear on eBay from time to time, and these tend to sell for many thousands of pounds.
Mick's friendship with Syd began in Cambridge in the mid-1960s, and flourished when they both
subsequently lived in London. This magnificent book, featuring some 200 colour and black & white photos, covers the period 1969–71 and includes the photo session in and around Syd’s London flat, which culminated in the cover for his first solo album, The Madcap Laughs. Within these pages are some of the most famous images of Syd Barrett, as well as a wealth of photographs that have rarely been seen before.
The book was published last month in Germany by Schwarzkopf & Schwarzkopf, and the worldwide edition - hitting stores around October 29th - is published by Plexus Publishing. You can order the book, at time of writing with a healthy discount, through the following special links: Amazon UK, Amazon US/International, Amazon Canada, Amazon Germany, or Amazon France.
If you live outside these countries, don't worry - Amazon will ship the book, well packaged, worldwide.
