On the day of his Gdansk concert, David Gilmour and his family joined with Richard Wright, former Polish President (and founder of Solidarity) Lech Walesa, and Mayor of Gdansk Pawel Adamowicz to honour those who died fighting for their beliefs.

dglw1The ceremony saw them laying wreaths for the fallen, at the monument for the shipyard workers, and with much thanks to Mariusz Hirsz we can bring you two pictures from the ceremony.

At a press conference last week, David paid tribute to the Solidarity movement, and in particular, Lech himself: "I am in awe of his achievements. I am only a pop musician."

Commenting on his concert being part of the Solidarity anniversary celebrations, he modestly noted that "it means a lot to me to take part in something that has changed the world in an enormous way. I don't deserve it."

The concert that followed in the evening concluded David's 2006 tour, and uniquely (due the size of the expected audience - 100,000) featured six large video screens hung over the stage, each focusing its attention on one musician.

dglw2Initial reports suggest that David and the band closed his tour with a storming show, and more details of the event can be found on our Gdansk concert page.

Our thanks again to Mariusz for the pictures.
