It has been confirmed that Pink Floyd's David Gilmour is amongst artists who have contributed their time and efforts to a tribute single for the late John Peel, British broadcasting legend. The cover version of "Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn't Have Fallen In Love With)" includes Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Jeff Beck and New Order's Peter Hook.

The original version came out in the 1970s, from British new wave band The Buzzcocks. It was always one of Peel's favourite singles. Buzzcock Pete Shelley, who wrote the song, also appears on the single.

Proceeds from the record will go to Amnesty International, the political campaign group which Peel supported.

The tribute single is the idea of Tom Ravenscroft, Peel's son, as he worked on a Channel 4 TV documentary about the DJ's record collection. The film focuses on a small wooden box in which Peel kept his 140 favourite singles - including Ever Fallen In Love. Ravenscroft selected the artists involved himself: "All the artists on the record have at some time been played by dad, whether recently or before I was born, and in some cases before they were really popular. It's unpredictable and there's hopefully someone or something in it for every listener. I was astonished and very touched that everyone agreed to be a part of it and I'm sure that the project as a whole and the work that has been put into it would have meant a huge amount to him."

Pete Shelley said of the new version: "It is very eclectic. That was the magic of John, though. He was somebody who embraced all forms of music over the last 40 years."

The record appears in stores on November 21st to coincide with Peel's induction into the UK Music Hall of Fame, which also sees Pink Floyd inducted.
