As many of you are aware, David Gilmour will be concluding his current tour by playing a special show at the Gdansk Shipyards, in front of a huge crowd of 100,000. The show falls on August 26th, the day that commemorates the 26th anniversary of Poland's 1980 revolution, where nationwide strikes led to the eventual fall of communism, and the Solidarity trade union was founded.

Stories are starting to appear in the Polish media that the concert will be filmed by David Mallet and a fifty-strong crew, for release on DVD. With the Royal Albert Hall shows from the end of May being prepared for DVD, we thought we'd check the truth of this out with David's management. They confirm that there are currently no plans for Mallet and his crew to record the concert, and also that no DVD of the event is planned, either. Of course, should this change, we will let you know.

David's own website revealed recently that the performance will be the full two-hour-plus version (no opening act), as seen elsewhere, with the full complement of Marc Brickman's lighting, including lasers. For the first time, David's live show will include a 38-member orchestra, with renowned Polish composer Zbigniew Preisner conducting his arrangements from the On An Island album – which is a Platinum record in Poland – so it should be a very memorable show.

Tickets for the Gdansk concert are now on sale via Ticketpro.pl, and more details of the show can be found over at our Gdansk concert page.

Our thanks to David's management for their help.
