Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour
takes a break from activities surrounding his forthcoming album and
tour, to make a guest appearance in a special BBC comedy production to
air over the Christmas period.

The original "Three Men In A Boat" |
Griff Rhys Jones, Dara O'Briain,
Rory McGrath and a nervous dog called Loli set out from Kingston in a
wooden skiff in an attempt to re-trace the journey up the Thames
immortalised by Jerome K Jerome in his comedy classic Three Men in a
Boat.
Along the way they drop in
unannounced on a couple of friends - David Gilmour and chef Antony
Worrall Thomson. Filming took place along the Thames (where Gilmour's
houseboat recording studio, The Astoria, resides) from 5 to 13
September.
The book was first published in
1889, and the series will follow the original journey as faithfully as
the passage of 116 years will allow. They will moor where the original
protagonists moored, sleep in the boat where the original characters
slumbered, and stay in some of the same pubs and guest-houses.
"It's not intended as an exact
recreation," said BBC commissioning executive Gilly Hall, "But more an
opportunity for three funny men to entertain audiences with themes that
have already amused and delighted generations of readers."
Their exploits are due for
broadcast at Christmas, in two hour-long programmes, the first of which
(including David's contribution) airs on BBC2 TV at 9pm (GMT) on
Tuesday 3rd January 2006, with the second half (as far as we know, not
including David) airing on Thursday 5th January, again at 9pm on BBC2.
