One of the overlooked gems from David Gilmour's frantic musical
activities in the eighties (not content with his Pink Floyd work, he
worked with a large number of big names on THEIR projects too!) was his
guesting on Pete Townshend's Deep End.
Spawning an album and a range of concerts (that subsequently appeared
on VHS video and CD), the Deep End project in its live setting included
a handful of David's songs amongst the classics. The concerts were in
aid of various charities, as have the subsequent release of the
recordings.
The majority of this band played a benefit show in 1986 for the
Colombia Volcano relief charity, and this was recorded and aired at
that time.
UK based radio station Planet Rock have unearthed this and broadcast
all 30 minutes of the show on their "Set List" programme, billed under
David's name. Included amongst the songs aired were "Run Like Hell" and
"Out Of The Blue".
For those who missed it, they are repeating the broadcast this
coming Thursday (November 23rd) at 6pm GMT. Planet Rock can be heard on
DAB Digital Radio, Sky Channel 0110 and NTL/Telewest channel 924 in the
UK, as well as via the stream on their website - www.planetrock.com.
Our thanks to John Johnstone, Simon Cruickshank and Ian Pointer for the information.
