The July 2006 issue of Sound On Sound, the UK's music recording magazine, is now out and features a great, six page interview with engineer Andy Jackson.

Indeed, his most recent work has been on David's On An Island, which is the focus of the article and interview.

Accompanied by some great pictures from the rehearsals and recording sessions, Andy talks in detail about the equipment set-up, and the recording process, at the three main locations used for the album: David's home studio, Abbey Road Studios in London, and at Astoria, David's houseboat studio on the Thames.

In a seperate interview, Phil Manzanera talks about producing the album, and about how he got David's early rough material knocked into workable shape.

Whilst the rest of the magazine contains exhaustive detail on the minutae of recording techniques and equipment, the interviews are fascinating reading and provide much food for thought on the work that goes on in the background, and which receives little recognition and praise, but without which, albums would sound a lot different!
